The local chief executive of Dumaguete City led the blessing ceremony of the newly-acquired heavy equipment, including a modern truck street sweeper donated by the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo credited the businessmen for “paying the correct taxes”, which helped the City generate a surplus income of P192 million in 2017 that funded the acquisition of heavy equipment, and the construction of two bridges.
Mayor Remollo also lauded NOCCI headed by President Francisco Martinez for donating one unit street sweeper truck that has the capacity to suck dirt, debris, and litter on the streets.
The truck will complement the human street sweepers, and is expected to efficiently cut manpower cost.
The brand new heavy equipment include two hydraulic excavators, a six-wheeler dump truck, a 10-wheeler dump truck, two six-wheeler mini dump trucks, a Mitsubishi Strada pick-up truck, a crawler-type bulldozer, two front-end payloaders, and four concrete mixers.
The Mayor recalled that the last time the City was able to buy an entire brand new fleet of heavy equipment was when he was mayor from 1998-2001. He said many of those units continue to be used by the City for the last 18 years.
Mayor Remollo also lauded the officers and laborers of the City Engineer’s Office for their dedication and industry. (JCT/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
