The Dr. Jovito R. Salonga Center for Law & Development, in cooperation with the Office of the City Legal Assistance Service, conducted a symposium on the implementation of the Plastic Ordinance. The activity aimed to foster awareness and to educate the society on the technical and legal and implementation aspects of the Ordinance.
The symposium was formally opened by Atty. Myrish Cadapan-Antonio, Salonga Center director, and followed by lectures of Vice-Mayor Alan Gel Cordova, Councilor Franklin Esmena Jr., and Armand Adanza, Integrated Solid Waste Management coordinator of the City Environment & Natural Resources Office. City Administrator William E. Ablong attended the symposium.
In the open forum, various queries were raised by vendors from the public market, representatives of Lee Plaza, Fortune Mart, and Cangs Inc., school heads, NGOs. It was agreed, however, that while the Ordinance may pose a certain inconvenience to the general public, the advantages to the environment would far outweigh the concerns.
The symposium was coordinated by the Salonga Center volunteers spearheaded by Katrina Canonce and Zara Dy, together with Hannah Descallar, Jan Mark Baguio, and Gracelyn Bellingan of the Salonga Trainings & Seminars Committee, and Andrea Alviola. (PR)
