Homegrown archer Naina Dominique Tagle has brought honor for Central Visayas by winning four gold medals at the Olympic round of the Palarong Pambansa 2024 archery games.
Tagle captured the gold medal in the 60m, 70m, 1440m and the Olympic round. She also grabbed the silver medal for the 50m.
Last May, Tagle also made headlines by winning 7 Golds and 1 Silver medals at the 2024 CVRAA.
Naina is the daughter of Nick and Atty. Fe Marie “Pinky” Tagle of Dumaguete City and a sister of Nicole “Cola” Marie Dicen Tagle, who is also one of the top archers of the country and abroad. Cola is Naina’s archery coach.
“My feel my heart draining as I watch Naina play,” Pinky said in a Facebook post, “This is the general feeling at the start of every event, probably stemming from my desire to see Naina reap the fruits of her hard work and also from knowing that many factors of the game are not within our control. Then, I would remind myself of our conversations and the feeling gradually wanes.
For Naina, it was not about the medal, but it was all about topping her personal best. “Don’t pray that I will win. Pray that I will be calm,” her mom recounted.
Her ate Cola said medals will just be the natural consequence for consistency, which is the product of wanting and doing to improve your game.
Commenting on Tagle’s performance, Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Remollo said “our home grown archers have consistently reaped medals and brought honor to our city. We can safely say that athletes are of international caliber. There will come a time that a Dumagueteño will become a gold medalist in the Olympics!” (Ihrene B. Datinguinoo, GothongMNHS)
