Punong Barangay Jovencio Tan of Dark was elected Friday as the new president of the Liga ng mga Barangay.

Tan obtained 23 votes during the Liga elections to win handily over Isagani Bana of Junob.

Tan will replace Liga President and former Motong Punong Barangay Diony Amores in the City Council.

Tan won his reelection bid in the last barangay election against  Jupert Remollo, the brother of Mayor Ipe Remollo.

In a Facebook post after his victory, Tan pledged to work hard for the 30 barangays in Dumaguete as he will be representing them in the City Council.

Also elected were Barangay Captains Nelson Ablir as vice president, Nerio Grapa as auditor, while those who received the highest votes for members of the board were Venus Cataylo with 27 votes, Randy Fausto, 26; Floro Suniega, 24;  Joel Erolon, 24; Peter Calumpang, 24; Rolando  Egera, 23; Angelina Garsula, 23 and Benefredo Ozoa, 23.
