The scholarship program of Cong. Chiquiting Sagarbarria continues to give hope to hundreds of beneficiaries in Negros Oriental.
Sarah Jane Bermejo of Tanjay is one of those who benefitted from this scholarship.
Struggling to wipe away her tears, she recounted in a Facebook post that having grown up in poverty, she was about to give up her schooling during her second year when their family faced tough times.
“I didn’t know that Cong. Sagarbarria was offering scholarships. I was told by our neighbor to try applying to become a scholar,” she continued.
Accompanied by her mother, Sarah went to the office of Cong. Chiquiting and she was surprised that, even without a recommendation from anybody, she was accepted into the program.
Sarah was able to graduate from College – a feat beyond her wildest dream back then.
“Thank you, Cong, for if not for you, and my supportive family, I wouldn’t have finished my studies,” she said.
Sarah said she would forever remember Cong. Chiquiting as the reason why she finished school and this knowledge, she said, will be her inspiration and assurance that he is ready to help the people.
“I hope your scholarship program will continue so it could help more people like me,” Sarah said, as she advices those who are in a similar situation as hers not to lose hope.
“We have a saying, If a person strives hard, God will help you,”
Upon seeing her testimony on social media, a netizen, Ella Panganiban, chimed in, expressing her thanks to Cong. Chiquiting for helping her three children through school.
She said she is happy that Cong. Chiquiting is running for Mayor because he will have a bigger opportunity to help others. “thank you, Cong and soon to be mayor of Dumaguete. We will always be with you.” (PR)
