TANJAY CITY — The grade 1 class of Plaza Central School has been chosen to pilot the Mother Tongue- Based Multi-lingual Education (MTB-MLE) here in the Division of Tanjay City.

Thirty-nine first graders enrolled in June this year in the experimental section of mother tongue-based education.

So far, the performance of the pupils show that it’s better to use the mother tongue as the first language in class because the children are able to read immediately through syllabication of their own language or home language.

The grade one teacher assigned to handle the MTB-MLE class is Felicitas C. Ramirez, who was trained in Cebu City to manage and facilitate the experimental class.

Meanwhile, Plaza Central School also joined the observance of National Science Club Month in September with the theme, Chemergy: Chemistry and Science Clubbing in Synergy. The activities included poster making contest, damath competition, science drama, and quiz bowl.

Plaza Central also conducted the STEP Competition from Sept. 23 to 24. It was joined in by all schools in the three districts of Tanjay City Division.

The YECS Bazaar attracted attention from the crowd because of its display of lechon and other novelties. Tanjay North District generated the biggest sales income.

Other contest categories for the elementary Level included tie dye, flower arrangement, fabric hand painting, appliqué, simple circuit making, asexual propagation, sales inventory, medicine kit shelf-making, fresh fruit shake-making.
