The city government of Dumaguete through the City Tourism Office opened Tuesday this season’s Tayada sa Plaza 2014 at the Colegio de Sta Catalina de Alexandria Gym.
Presentations from the different schools and universities of the city were showed to the audience.
The event started with an invocation followed by the National Anthem led lead by the Negros Oriental State University Kabilin Choir.
Different schools and universities in the city participated in the Tayada sa Plaza, an activity held every weekend to showcase the different talents of schools, colleges and universities in the city, said Syril Repe of the City Information Office.
Present during the new season launch were the Dumaguete City High School, Foundation University, St. Paul University Dumaguete, Silliman University, Negros Oriental State University, and Negros Oriental High School.
Various folk dances like Kumintang, Sayaw sa Bangko, Tinikling, Mazurka de Jana, Binasaun and Kinalasag Dance were presented by the participants.
To give variety to the event, song numbers were also presented by Dumaguete talents, namely Rakim Salatan, Geva Villiamil and Romilyn Homicillo as well as a song rendition by the Negros Oriental High School.
Both Latin and Standard Dance Sports were also presented by the Dumaguete Shoe Stoppers.
Tayada sa Plaza will be a weekly cultural event for the city that will be held every Sunday at 4:00 in the afternoon at the Quezon Park.
This is has been organized by the City Tourism to showcase the numerous talents and skills of the students in the city also known as the university town. (PNA/JFP)
