This tournament, which is now on its fourth year, is part of Foundation University’s advocacy for youth sports, for which the Youth at Play program was conceived, said Guiles Roxas, assistant director of the FU Institute for Youth Sports and Peace.
Futsal is a variant of the sport popularized in the Philippines by the Azkals, but has fewer players and is mainly played indoors.
Roxas said that by Sunday afternoon, four teams will vie for the championship in the Under-11 division. The four finalists are Foundation University, RDY-B, RDY-A and San Roque Cebu.
For the Under-13 Division, the finalists are FU, Valencia, Anthony’s and Sibulan.
In the Under-17 Division, the final games for Bracket A will be played between Anthony’s and Kalikasan-A.
For Bracket B, the finalists are the Football Club of Banilad Cebu and the Hermanos.
Roxas said that after the championship matches by Sunday, April 15, the FU-YAP program will embark on the 7-a-side Futsal tournament to be held in July. This will also be followed by the 11-a-side tournament.
There will also be a volleyball tournament on April 26, also at the Robinson’s Dumaguete Mall, Roxas said.
