The local government unit of Dumaguete City and the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) have signed a deed of usufruct for the construction of the provincial TESDAoffice at the Dumaguete City High School compound.
Leading the ceremonial signing were TESDA Director General and Secretary Joel Villanueva and Dumaguete Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, with TESDA and city officials also present.
Sec. Villanueva was also in Dumaguete to lead in the distribution of scholarship vouchers amounting to P20 million intended for 17 schools across the province.
The Provincial Integrated Skills Training Center was also awarded the same scholarship vouchers under TESDA’s Training for Work Scholarship Program.
Those who want to avail of the TESDA’s scholarship program can go directly to the PISTC office in Barangay Talay, Dumaguete City.
Meanwhile, some 2,123 students and at least nine members of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas were among those awarded scholarship vouchers.
Scholarship programs include vast sectors such as construction, tourism, information and communications technology, electronics, agriculture and fishery, among others.
At a press conference afterwards, Villanueva explained that TESDA is doing its best to address the problem of jobs mismatch in the country by identifying the needs of each sector.
Schools that are TESDA-accredited also offer technical-vocational (tech-voc) courses where the scholarship vouchers are recognized.
Also with Sec. Villanueva during his visit to Negros Oriental were TESDA regional director Rosanna Urdaneta and TESDA provincial director Floro Ringca. (PNA/JFP)
