Former Negros Oriental governor Pryde Henry Teves has assured the public that he will face the Terrorism charges filed against him in court.
Teves is out on bail after his arrest last Thursday by elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group who served a Warrant from a Cebu Regional Trial Court Branch 74.
Also ordered arrested in the same Warrant were Teves’ brother, former Congressman Arnolfo Teves, Jr. and a certain Marvin Miranda.
They are charged for the March 4 murder last year of Gov. Roel Degamo and nine other people, as well as for several murder incidents and harassment in the province in the past years when he was still in public office.
Teves assured that he has no intention to escape the charges and to go in hiding.
“I am just here. I will not flee. I will face it squarely because that is my duty as a Filipino and as a Christian.”
Teves told reporter Roy Bustillo that he has no intention of escaping as he belied news reports that he is the Most Wanted Person in the region.
“How can I be most wanted when I only knew about the warrant and when I knew about it, I went right away to the Police Station to verify if it’s true. Is there a Most Wanted person who has a regular Saturday radio program?” he asked.
Arnolfo Teves is currently under house arrest in Timor-Leste, pending the host country’s decision on his extradition to the Philippines to face the charges against him. (With reports from PNA)
