The City’s Special Action Group Advocating Rapid Reforms, or Task Force SAGARR, is forging a partnership with the Foundation University Student Government to tap student support in helping accomplish its objectives.
City Administrator William Ablong, ground commander of TF Sagarr, sent his representative, Gemma Yso, deputy officer for education, to Foundation University last Wednesday to meet with representatives of the Student Government to forge a partnership aimed at assisting the task force in accomplishing its objectives.
Task Force Sagarr was created by Mayor Chiquiting Sagarbarria for the purpose of having a body that will enforce the provisions of existing City ordinances.
Ablong said he has sought the assistance of FU and its student organizations in anticipation of formidable challenges and the need for involvement of young people in the communities.
According to Yso, the involvement of the youth in the City will be secured through the formation and deputization of Junior Sagarr groups for college and high school students and Kiddie Sagarr for grade school children.
These groups, coming from the public and private educational institutions in Dumaguete will serve as volunteers that will perform various tasks assigned to them by the task force.
FU will host the first orientation seminar for the student leaders who will be briefed on the various provisions of the ordinances and the role they will play. The seminar is tentatively scheduled on the second week of June.
Priority ordinances to be discussed are those which directly involve the health and welfare of students such as boardinghouses, eateries, internet cafes, smoking ban, illegal drugs, gambling, traffic and waste management.
Representatives of the FU student government who met with Yso were Kriss Michael Tubog, SG adviser, Elmar Cabrera, faculty adviser of the College of Computer Studies, Robbie Austin Vailoces, SG president, and Dr. Perry Mequi, director of the Inst. of Youth Sports for Peace.
