If you had a chance of seeing the pomp and pageantry of the Buglasan Festival 2012, you might not have imagined how it started off as a small celebration in 1981 to bring the arts of Negros Oriental to the attention of the rest of the country.
The Buglasan Festival has since become an annual event that people look forward to every year.
Strategically timed with semestral break, students and some Negrenses living in other cities time their vacations to coincide with the Buglasan celebration.
Perhaps due to the forthcoming political exercise in May 2013 — or as some say, because of some unliquidated financial transactions of previous Buglasan celebrations — this year’s celebration was watered down a bit from the others that we’ve seen.
Nevertheless, the celebration was still a success in that it portrayed the dreams and aspirations of the towns and cities of Negros Oriental.
Every place has to have a reason to celebrate. From our own homes to little roadside chapels, to barangays, to towns, cities and provinces, celebrations are a way of life.
This is the reason for the holding of the Buglasan Festival every year. This is when we pause to celebrate the goodness in each one of us which we share with everyone else.
So if you had only a few hours to introduce Negros Oriental to a guest, you couldn’t have gone wrong in bringing him or her to the Buglasan Festival.
But if you missed that, there’s always the Sidkalang Negros Village along E.J. Blanco road.
Yes, as Negrenses, there’s a time to put our best foot forward. This happens every year during the Buglasan!
