This morning I was reminded of that compelling principle.
Sometimes as disciples of Jesus Christ, we tend to rely our salvation on the invisible checklist.
Our natural tendency would have us believe that if I go to Church, pay my tithes, attend Sunday Schools, read the scriptures, perform my callings, then I would get my free pass to salvation.
As important as these commandments may be, if we silently grudge other people, or complain and murmur in silence, perhaps even find ourselves needlessly competing with others, then our former goals will defeat the purpose, and we fall into vain.
Because being disciples of Jesus Christ means more than doing such commandments. It entails understanding these principles, and acting upon them with real intent.
Real intent separates us from the danger of unrighteous dominion. Obtaining real intent requires the humbling influence of the Holy Ghost.
When we easily judge others, easily find fault in others and in everything, then perhaps our focus is not in the Savior Jesus Christ.
Today, besides sharing my personal conviction, I was blessed to hear a fellow brother’s testimony that helped me put my weaknesses into perspective.
I was reminded among with the many that Satan isn’t worried about us doing the master checklist of becoming the most righteous person on the planet.
Satan is worried about us [remembering] the Savior Jesus Christ because He knows he has no dominion over us, especially when our focus is on Our Savior.
Remembering our Savior grants us His grace, and when we remember the Savior, Satan has no power over us.
By all means, obeying the commandments with real intent and understanding should help us become new creatures, and not become [holier than thou].
And we make that possible through The Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost has the ability to inspire us to do everything with real intent, and with humility.
I know with all the faculties of my soul that Jesus is the Christ. He is the answer in both victory and defeat.
Becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ is not easy. Choosing a path to righteousness will always mean proving ourselves every step of the way.
But I testify that the Savior will rush to our aid especially when we are trying our best to choose the right. Of this, I testify in the name of Jesus Christ,Amen.
