Business permits deadline
City Councilor Agustin Miguel Perdices is asking legal minds at City Hall to see if the Dumaguete Mayor could issue an executive order extending the January 20 deadline for business permit applications.
Perdices made the request as the City Council was still barred by law to extend the deadline, or to tackle any other business until after they pass the executive budget.
Perdices cited an example whereby a local chief executive issued an executive order during the time of the pandemic, extending the deadline for the filing of business permits.
Acting City Treasurer Leonidasa Oira had written Mayor Felipe Remollo to ask for an extension of the deadline. She admitted to encountering difficulties in the City’s implementation of the Electronic Busines Permit Licensing System due to issues with the system of the Department of Information & Communication Technology.
She said as a result of this problem, there are many taxpayers who have not been able to pay their business taxes.
Councilor TonyRems Remollo is also suggesting that the City Council pass a Resolution after they pass the budget, extending the deadline, and condoning the penalty for late filers. (AP)
