About last night…
Somebody asked me 1) Why I joined the #NoTo174Reclamation protest rally, and 2)Did we achieve what we hoped to accomplish.
I joined the silent protest rally Friday night because I am incensed at how some of our elected officials are determined to push through with the 174-hectare reclamation despite all scientific and legal data presented by respected experts in their fields that this, indeed, is a nightmare, a bad project for Dumaguete.
And even if it were a good project, it is very strange that the proponents did not observe transparency, did not consult the stakeholders, and they violated laws they are well aware of.
Makatingala kaayo ngano ila gyud ipugos, by all means in their power, nga madayun gyud ang project nga daghan kaayo ga-voice out ug opposition.
Sige ga-information drive but they are not addressing the important questions that have been asked of them from the beginning.
Instead, they want to ram down the throats of their captive audience the same political promises they have kept dangling before the people since Day 1. All generalities, no specific data to back up their sweet words.
I have many other things to do but being present in the rally is a priority for me.
It is one small way to show I am one with the many who are willing to fight this battle for our beloved Dumaguete.
Did we achieve our rally goals? We don’t know yet but we sure hope so.
We aim to evoke awareness among fellow Dumagueteños, by birth or by affinity.
If you are not aware yet of how devastating the proposed project will be, please read up, watch videos, attend webinars, listen well. Be educated, be informed.
We would also like to let the elected officials who are pushing for this 174-hectare project know that we will not take this sitting down.
As the battle cry goes: Tindugan ta ni, Dumaguete!
