A former barangay captain who had earlier voluntarily surrendered to the police under Oplan TokHang was shot dead by unknown assailants in Guihulngan City Wednesday evening.

A police report said the victim, Russel Sadagnot Gemina, 43, single, of Barangay Tinayunan Hill in Guihulngan City, was shot dead around 9:05 p.m. Wednesday in the town proper.

Gemina was in the old watchlist of alleged drug personalities, according to the report of Guihulngan chief of police, Supt. Ronaldo Planco Palomo.

The report said the victim was on board an XRM motorcycle when fired upon by gunmen riding in tandem.

Gemina was shot once from the back with a cal. 45 pistol and was declared dead on arrival at the Gov. Billy Villegas Memorial Hospital in Guihulngan.

Initial investigation disclosed the victim has allegedly returned to the illegal drugs trade even after he had surrendered to the police.

Another angle being looked into is a land dispute in his barangay.
