The Training for Better Access to Job Opportunities (TRABAJO) project of the government is expected to bring more jobs and improve the different sectors in Negros Oriental.

Ma. Socorro Mira, chief of the Public Employment Service Office of Dumaguete City, said that the TRABAJO is a project of the Department of Interior & Local Government which is piloted in at least five local government units in the Province.

These are Dumaguete, Tanjay City, Bais City, Manjuyod, and Dauin.

Dumaguete City alone has a budget of P7 million for the project, while the other LGUs also have between P4 million and P50 million for the same, said Mira.

Mira explained that as part of the TRABAJO program, a whole-day industry forum was held Thursday attended by the different sectors such as the tourism, hotel, transportation, and business process outsourcing industries so they can air their respective concerns.

Some 300 individuals from these sectors and other government and private groups, such as the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce & Industry, were present in the forum held at a local hotel here.

The PESO chiefs of the other beneficiary LGUs and their DILG officers were also present in the said industry forum, the first of a series for Dumaguete, according to Mira.

Dumaguete City is the first LGU in Negros Oriental in the tourism circuit under TRABAJO to implement the said program.

Mira said they have already organized a Technical Working Group comprising the PESO, the City Tourism Office and the City Planning and Development Office, among others to map out a work force development plan.

TRABAJO aims to provide skills training in the above-mentioned industries to equip individuals with the proper skills when applying for a job, she explained.

Training providers include the Technical Education & Skills Development Authority and technical/vocational schools and institutions.

Some private training entities have also signified their intention with the city government to conduct skills training where needed, Mira said. (JFP)
