Starting Monday, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) here will ban from the highways tricycles plying the Dumaguete-Sibulan and Dumaguete-Bacong routes.
LTO-Dumaguete chief Roland Ramos said the LTO order will exclude the highways that traverse through Dumaguete City.
Ramos said as the guardian of the highway, the LTO’s mandate is road safety and order.
He issued the statement on Thursday as the dry-run for the use of the transport terminal inside Robinson’s Place Mall for public utility vehicles, multi-cabs and Garage to Terminal (GT) vans-for-hire in Dumaguete will also start on Monday.
Earlier, transport groups had a meeting with the Traffic Management Council, presided by Lily Raymundo, to discuss the month-long use of the P25 million terminal both for north and south-bound routes.
According to Ed Du, TMC member and president of the Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry, PUVs, PUJs, and multicabs were given designated routes to traverse inside the city in order to ease-up the traffic.
Ramos made it clear that since a legal terminal is already established, all illegal terminals inside the city can now be removed.
The terminal at Robinson’s Place is sanctioned by the city and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board. (PNA)
