The parents of a 15-year-old boy, who was killed in a hit-and-run accident last month, were assured by the police in Tanjay City that they are doing their best to locate the driver and the truck involved.
The assurance was made to Nestor and Evangeline Ragay by Chief Insp. George Badon, Tanjay City police chief, during a conference Tuesday with officials of the Land Transportation Office in Bais City.
The couple sought help from the media and the LTO-Bais district office headed by Alberta Janine Lawas, in locating the driver and 10-wheeler truck that allegedly ran over their son Neil, 15, in July along the national highway in Tanjay City.
The parents claimed they have witnesses who got the plate number of the truck, and it was traced to a company in Laguna.
However, Badon told the Ragay couple that the police still needs to “build up” a case against the truck and the identify its driver.
He said the police do not have a strong case against the company that owns the truck and its driver because of some “loose ends” in their investigation.
Investigators have checked with the various ports in Negros Oriental to determine if the truck, whose plate number has been withheld, had entered the Province before the road accident.
Lawas said the LTO cannot set up an alarm system against the truck without a court order.
Neil was riding a motorcycle driven by Carlo Pasco on their way to Tanjay after watching a Motard race, when they overtook another vehicle, and hit its side, causing the boy to be thrown off. The truck, on the opposite lane, allegedly slowed down, but the boy was dragged by one of its wheels, police investigation showed. The truck driver allegedly then sped off after the accident.
