City Administrator William Ablong has suggested air conditioning a 5,000-head poultry farm in barangay Bajumpandan in order to get the approval of the neighbors and the City.

The application of the poultry farm was blocked by the Bajumpandan Barangay Council due to another incident whereby a similar poultry farm in the same barangay was ordered closed because of air pollution.

Ablong told SkyNews that the farm will help in the food security of the city, considering its increasing population.

The proposed poultry is owned by a local businessman, Silverio Cruz.

His representative, Roy Alcantara, attended the regular session of the barangay to explain their proposal but he could not give details on the design as well as the technology to be used, despite assurances that they will use the latest technology to remove bad odor and drive away flies.

Alcantara said the proposed poultry farm has complied with the distance requirement of 50 meters from a road and 20 meters from a creek or river.

A daycare center located in front of the slaughterhouse, as well as the Habitat 4 housing community, Core Shelter, and Caritas Phase 1, with around 240 residential houses, have already expressed concern on the project.

Ablong said he can help make the project environmentally-friendly, so as not to discourage businessmen from investing in the city. (SGR)
