Law enforcement authorities scored anew in its anti-illegal drugs campaign as they swooped down on suspected drug pushers in the northern town of Ayungon, Negros Oriental Monday afternoon, yielding P25,000 worth of “shabu”, firearms and ammunition.
Two suspects were arrested during the joint buy bust operation by the Provincial Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (SOTG), the Ayungon police and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) provincial office. However, the supposed “boss” of the two suspects managed to evade arrest.
A police report identified the arrested suspects as Virgil Gonzales and Rex Torres, both of legal age and workers of a certain Jowett Nusan, who fled before the operatives could apprehend him during the buy bust operation Monday afternoon in Sitio Looc, Barangay Tampocon I in Ayungon.
The buy bust operation was carried out in the compound of the house of Nusan where Gonzales and Torres allegedly delivered a “bolto” (street slang for a large volume of illegal drugs) of suspected shabu to an undercover agent.
Aside from the shabu, with an estimated street value of P25,000, the law enforcers also seized from Gonzales a caliber 9-mm firearm with a magazine and five live rounds of ammunition, a Toyota Corolla, improvised tooters, a bundle of empty plastic sachets and a P500 marked bill placed on top of strips of paper or bogus money.
Another 9-mm machine pistol with seven live rounds of ammunition was confiscated from Torres, the police said.
The suspects were detained as charges for violation of the Dangerous Drugs Act and for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition were filed against them during an inquest on Tuesday, according to Atty. Dominador Cimafranca, head of the local NBI. (PNA)
