Solar electric technology is not a new discovery. It appears in electricity markets that guarantee a quick return on investment. This is happening full swing here in Negros.
Solar farms being regarded as “insufficient” for the 24-hour baseload needs of Negros is quite true. Until storage of solar energy is affordable, it is only a daytime generator of electricity, although daytime needs are constant.
The question is: What about 24-7 since investment capital revolves around 24-7.
Proper application of solar can be used by anyone with a large daytime electricity consumption such as schools, businesses, iceplants, rice mills, resorts, government buildings. The electricity produced from the sun can be used 1-1 to offset an electricity bill, but only during daylight hours.
Here in Negros, roof-top solar is the sweet spot for solar application which can provide direct savings all day long.
The challenges of solar farms should not be confused with the application of roof top solar. With electricity storage breakthroughs, the 24-7 problem will be solved. (Jeff Davis)
