The top two teams of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) namely the De La Salle University and the University of the Philippines-Dilliman will feature in an exhibition game on April 14 and 15.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo also said that at least two local collegiate teams Negros Oriental State University and Asian College will play against the UAAP squads at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex.

Mayor Remollo added that entrance to the games are free on a first-come-first-serve basis. Hence, the public is invited to watch the games.

Meanwhile, the Little League Visayas Qualifiers will kick off this afternoon featuring 25 baseball and softball teams from Region 6, 7 and 8. Dumaguete City has fielded strong teams that could outgun their rivals and represent the Visayas region in the Philippine series.

As soon as Little League Visayas is concluded, the paddlers from all over the country will take center stage and compete in the Dumaguete Dragon Boat Challenge at the Rizal Boulevard on April 12 to 14.

Various teams from across the country such as those from Manila, Panay, Cebu, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Tacloban and Bohol will compete for top honors in different categories.

And before the month of April ends, Beach Volleyball on Tour returns to Dumaguete with a bigger number teams from around the country, which will vie for top prizes in several matches at the Rizal Beach Courts on April 26 and 27.

Dumaguete City is now considered as an emerging sports tourism hub in the country having successfully hosted international, national and regional events that attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors and generated hundreds of millions in revenues benefiting the local economy.

The city has attracted athletes and tourists due the presence of quality facilities, affordable cost of living, conducive environment, strategic location and enthusiastic hometown crowd.

The Dumaguete City Tourism Office reports total visitor arrival of 706,689 for the year 2018, versus 615,861 for the year 2017 or 14.75% increase.

In a bid to increase security, the city government has constructed two police outposts in both ends of the Rizal Avenue, which is frequented by hundreds of locals and tourists. (PIO)
