Valencia Mayor Enrique Gonzalez has vowed to complete the construction of the P5 million Valencia multi-purpose building in time for the fiesta celebration of the town in October.

The building that is being put up near the rural health office is the realization of the longtime dream of the town to provide a decent venue for conferences and important meetings, the mayor said.

He added that the second floor will be used as dormitory to accommodate residents from far-flung barangays like Dobdob, who will be bringing in their farm produce to the market in Dumaguete, or those accompanying relatives or friends for treatment at the rural health center.

Gonzalez said that at present, residents from remote barangays are allowed to sleep at the town gymnasium.

The two-storey building is funded through a counter-parting scheme by the Ating Koop Partylist and the local government of Valencia, that allocated P2 million and provided the lot.

William Ybañez, chair of the Ating Koop Partylist in Visayas, said the money is sourced from the Priority Development Assistance Fund that is divided for local government units with active cooperatives.

Ybañez added that they also provide assistance like trainings and leadership enhancements to cooperative leaders. Those interested can send a letter for proper deliberation at the central office of the partylist in Manila, he said. (PNA)
