A three-year rest.
This is what outgoing Bais City Mayor Karen Villanueva said she would do during the three-year term of new mayor Mercy Goni.
In her State of the City Address last Friday at the Sangguniang Panlunsod Session Hall, Villanueva said she and her father, Hector “Tata” Villanueva, “We are ready to engage and offer our services should you call on us again.”
The younger Villanueva served as mayor for three years after a nine-year term as city councilor. She ran against incumbent Rep. George Arnaiz in the May 2013 elections.
Villanueva outlined the gains of Bais City under her administration for the last three years, oftentimes departing from her prepared speech to expound on her points in Cebuano, to be understood by her supporters who came to listen to her speak.
Her speech, which took about one hour, was applauded 12 times.
Bais City, she said, has P31 million in “unappropriated retained earnings,” despite the 15 percent drop in the Internal Revenue Allotment.
Villanueva said they have drafted eight comprehensive plans which will ensure that the City will be OK for the next 10 years “if that will be followed.”
