Supt. Alet Virtucio continues to be at the helm of the Provincial Police Office in the absence of a full-fledged appointee.
The Philippine National Police hierarchy in Camp Crame has yet to submit to Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo a list of nominees for the position of provincial police director.
This was confirmed by Chief Supt. Danilo Constantino, newly-installed PNP Region 7 director, during his visit here Thursday.
Currently, the position is vacant after Sr. Supt. Noli Romana was transferred shortly after the May 13 elections to the Cebu City provincial police office.
Under the law, the provincial governor has the authority to choose the provincial police director from a list of three eligible nominees as recommended by Camp Crame.
Chief Supt. Constantino said at least three senior officers from the PNP Region 7 Office had applied for the position. They are Sr. Supts. Erson Digal, Marciano Batiancila and Petronelli Baldebrin.
Governor Degamo’s choice, which he repeatedly announced in previous interviews, is Sr. Supt. Baldebrin, currently the police chief of Mandaue City in Cebu and who hails from Siaton, Negros Oriental, also the hometown of the governor.
According to Chief Supt. Constantino, the names of Digal, Batiancila and Baldebrin have already been submitted to the PNP’s screening and selection board.
He could not ascertain the date that the governor will receive the list of nominees for the next provincial PNP director of Negros Oriental.
Chief Supt. Constantino paid a courtesy call on Gov. Degamo Thursday morning prior to meeting the officers and staff of the Negros Oriental PNP office at Camp Fernandez in nearby Sibulan town. (PNA/JFP)
