The Visayan Forum, an organization at the forefront against the trafficking of children and women, has filed a case against their auditor for perjury.
In a press statement, Dondee Senires said the VF decided to file the case after their auditor, Celestina Medina-Aguilar and former Bookkeeper Maria Annalie Villacorte, have not been able to prove their allegations against the organization in the last six months. The VF said the failure of the two to substantiate their claims only tarnished their stellar reputation.
“We have suffered great losses after we closed some of our intervention programs for human trafficking victim survivors, domestic workers and at-risk communities,” Senires said.
It could be recalled that the United States Agency for International Development cut its funding for the VF after the two officers alleged that the organization falsifies their papers to liquidate the funds given by USAID.
The revelation came as a shock to the people who had been working with the Visayan Forum in ending modern day slavery, even as the VF vowed to continue pursuing its advocacy.
The case was filed last Thursday at the Quezon City Hall of Justice.
