Vice President Leni Robredo on Friday lauded local partners in the realization of her projects for schools in Negros Oriental.
Robredo visited the Kalanggaman Elementary School in Sitio Kalanggaman in barangay Mayabon in Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental on Friday morning where her Angat Buhay program was piloted.
The school is made of light materials.
In a dialogue with local residents and parents in the village, they asked the Vice President’s help for a school building, road development, and water supply, among others.
VP Robredo said that because of the limited resources of the Office of the Vice President, she tapped some individuals and corporations to help her accomplish her project in that sub-village.
Vice President Robredo was accompanied by her local partners Engr. Gregorio Uymatiao, vice president of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inc.-Dumaguete; Nene Wuthrich, executive director of LBC Foundation; Raymond Serios, special projects manager of Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation; and Lilian Bardenas, Negros area head of International Care Ministries.
Engr. Uymatiao said the Federation of Fil-Chinese will help build two classrooms to be completed this year.
VP Robredo learned that almost 1,000 children from the village are not in school because they need to travel many kilometers before reaching the school.
The Vice President expressed her gratitude to the Alanano family in Zamboanguita for their donation of a one hectare lot for the school building.
Zamboanguita Mayor Glenson Alanano led local officials, including Vice Mayor Felipe Elmido, municipal council members, Department of Education officials and teachers, students, parents and barangay officials in welcoming Vice President Robredo. (Syril Repe)
