The fight for the lone seat representing of the Philippine Councilors League in the Provincial Board of Negros Oriental is heating up.
The elections will be held on Wednesday, August 7, at Hotel Essencia in Dumaguete City.
Vice Governor Mark Macias said there are at least five contenders for the PCL post. He named the possible candidates as Dumaguete Councilors JV Imbo, Dan Leon, Saleto Erames and Antonio Remollo, with Jimalalud Councilor Chester Lim as the fifth candidate.
Imbo is perceived to have the backing of Rep. Henry Teves and Rep. George Arnaiz. Leon, on the other hand, is believed to be supported by his grandfather, the former Cong. Herminio Teves. Erames is believed to be Gov. Roel Degamo’s candidate and Antonio Remollo, while a Liberal Party member, is running as an independent candidate. The Liberal Party candidate is Lim.
The number of candidates may still increase as nominations are accepted up to the last minute, Macias said.
Unlike the previous PCL election in 2010, which was decided through a gentlemen’s agreement among the three Representatives of Negros Oriental, this one will be different. “This will be a free-for-all,” Macias said.
