#DumaGeTmE is a pun — where only a few can understand.

It requires a lot of explaining to those who don’t get it. I think it’s a pretentious slogan as it doesn’t represent the pride of Dumaguete.

In my personal experience, what makes Dumaguete great is its people – not necesssarily because of Dumaguete’s delicious food (no doubt they are delicious), nor its majestic mountain, glorious waterfalls, or its cozy beach resorts.

In the end, it all boils down to its amazing local people: the friendly pedicab and habal-habal drivers, the generous and hospitable local owners of the painitan eateries, the vendors selling balut, peanuts fish balls by the boulevard, the local restaurant/store/resort owners — all of whom open their doors with a big smile and politeness.

This — the people and sharing a unique experience with them — is what makes Dumaguete irresistible and great to visitors.

So for me, the #DumaGeTmE hashtag does not connect with nor represent Dumaguete’s diverse, colorful, local people who pride themselves as being salt of the earth – no pretense or puns needed to describe themselves.

Simply put, what you see is what you get.
