The beginning of the second semester at Foundation University brings the feeling of anticipation for the alumni, faculty, staff and students as it brings a new season of celebration.
Following the 67-year-old tradition of the mardi gras, the Kasadyaan Festival is one of the oldest annual celebrations in the Province of Negros Oriental.
Established by the University’s Founder Dr. Vicente G. Sinco, the evening parade of colorful lights, costumes and motifs was patterned after the Lantern Parade of the University of the Philippines where Dr. Sinco once served as its 8th president and dean of the College of Law.
Highlighting the festival is the themed evening parade of floats with well-lighted and colorful street dance contingents that most of the Dumaguete folks look forward every December.
Aside from the colorful parade passing through the main streets of Dumaguete, the Kasadyaan Festival also includes nightly activities held in the FU campus, booth contests, Pasundayag, the cultural show, talent exposures, and a lot more of fun and merry-making activities.
At this age of women empowerment and advancement of gender equality rights, the University gives tribute to the Foundationite woman through Hara sa FU – the annual pageant in search for women ambassadors of goodwill who do not only possess the looks, the mind, and the character but also the heart to serve the greater community through various advocacies.
More than the usual campus pageant, Hara sa FU aims to bring out the best out of the Foundationite woman as a leader of change within the campus and outside the wider community.
Every woman who would bear the title is expected to pursue an advocacy ranging from women and child empowerment & welfare, environmental conservation & preservation, minority empowerment, animal protection & welfare, youth empowerment, academic excellence & leadership, to democracy & freedom, and the arts.
This second semester at FU, the emphasis is more on the rebirth of the soul’s consciousness through arts and culture, and the relevance and correlation of the University to the immediate community.
Foundation’s academic community also looks forward to the lantern and decor competition among colleges and departments in time for the Christmas season.
