Former Councilor Renz Macion, who was Sangguniang Kabataan Federation president, was recently chosen by the U.S. Department of State and the US Bureau of Educational & Cultural Affairs to represent the Philippines in the 2024 Young SouthEast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI)academic fellow program.

Macion was assigned to have his educational fellowship on Civic Engagement at the University of Nebraska at Omaha from April 20 to May 22 this year.

The YSEALI program, an intensive academic program to understand the US society, its culture, and institutions,  is designed to “strengthen leadership development across Southeast Asia, deepen engagement with young leaders on key regional and global challenges, and strengthen people-to-people ties” between the US and Southeast Asia.

The core themes of YSEALI are civic engagement, environmental issues & national resource management, and social entrepreneurship & economic development.

After the five-week program, Macion is expected to develop an action plan project addressing a civic issue in the local community, to be funded by the US Department of State. (PR)
