The Department of Science & Technology – Science Education Institute opens its online application of its 2024 Junior Level Science Scholarships.

Interested incoming third-year college students in Negros Oriental will no longer visit DOST Negros Oriental Provincial S&T Office to submit their application forms and requirements. They only need to access the e-Scholarship Application System. The student should secure a valid email address, working cellphone number, and a stable internet connection before accessing the site.

The student is qualified to apply if he is an incoming regular third-year college student for SY 2024-2025. The applicant must have a general weighted average of 83 percent or its equivalent in every semester, and with no failing grade for the first year and first semester of his second year. Students who have taken previous DOST-scholarship examinations or those who have qualified but did not avail of the scholarship award are still eligible to apply.

The Junior Level Science Scholarships are open to all juniors enrolled in any of DOST’s identified S&T priority courses regardless of socio-economic status. For students with high aptitude in science and mathematics who belong to families whose socio-economic status exceeds the set values of certain indicators, the student may apply for the Merit Scholarship.

On the other hand, RA 7687 is specifically meant for poor and talented students who belong to families whose socio-economic status do not exceed the set values of certain indicators. Moreover, the RA 10612 is for students who are willing to teach science and mathematics subjects in Senior High School after graduation.

Successful applicants must continue to enroll in the DOST-SEI approved institution or college/university with CHED-compliant programs where he is originally studying. He is not allowed to transfer to another university or shift to another degree program.

For those who are studying in any DOST-accredited private university or college, DOST will pay P20,000.00/semester as tuition subsidy. Among other benefits are monthly stipend of P8,000.00 for 10 months period per school year, book allowance of P5,000.00/semester, thesis allowance at an outright grant of P10,000.00, health accident insurance, transportation allowance for scholars with permanent home address outside their school province, and a graduation allowance after graduation.

Last year, 34 of the 267 online registrants from Negros Oriental (12.73 percent) qualified as scholars.

Deadline of application is on May 31, and the qualifying examination will be held on July 28.
