The Negros Island Region issue appears to be heating up on social media because many people are exercising their right to free speech and spitting out what’s on their minds for the whole world to see.

Many comments border on false premises. We’ve read comments saying that this NIR will put Negros Oriental in a disadvantageous position as Negros Occidental will surely get the bigger portion of the pie.

Others say the NIR will benefit only the businessmen because they are the ones promoting it. There are also comments about the educational system, wherein because thee are more Ilonggos than Cebuano-speaking Negenses, the mother tongue to be used in our schools would be Ilonggo. The list goes on.

One thing, though, is certain. It was tried and implemented from 2015-2017. It succeeded. It did not end because it failed but because of a political decision which was arrived at without any consultation.

Now, it seems like the issue is now left for the President of the Philippines to decide on. Should he sign or not?

Well, according to the President’s sister, the President will sign the law “in a few days.”

Let’s hope what happens would be beneficial for Negros Island and Siquijor.
