A total of 143 families in Dumaguete have ‘graduated‘ from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program after they were deemed to have achieved self-sufficiency partly because their children are now professionals or have engaged in their respective livelihood businesses.

The Department of Social Welfare & Development Office Region 7, headed by Director Shalaine Marie Lucero, led the graduation ceremony in Dumaguete.

DSWD 4Ps Team Leader Myrna Batalan noted that some of the children of the graduating families are now law enforcers, government employees, OFWs, licensed teachers, customer service representatives, an artist designer, private employees, managers, an engineer, a barangay councilor, and entrepreneurs.

She disclosed that 1, 756 households are currently active 4Ps beneficiaries in Dumaguete, including the 733 new families who were listed in 2023.

4Ps is a national poverty-reduction strategy and human capital investment program that provides cash benefits for  parents with children enrolled in school, pre-natal and post-natal care for mothers, regular medical check-ups for children upto five years old, and deworming for children upto 14 years old. The parents are required to attend the monthly Family Development Session. (PR)
