Some 600 members from 101 Rotary Clubs in the Visayas and Mindanao, comprising District 3860, completed their first-ever four-in-one gathering Thursday to Saturday here in Dumaguete.

The gathering put together four important Rotary trainings—the Presidents-Elect Training Seminar, the Secretaries-Elect Training Seminar, the District Training Assembly, and the District Team Training Assembly.

The venue for the four events were Bethel Guest House and the Negros Oriental Convention Center.

Dumaguete Councilor Rey Lyndon Lawas, who is Assistant Governor for Area 3-D covering the Rotary Clubs of Bais City, Tolong, and Siquijor Central, handled the preparations and execution of the three-day event, under the direction of District Gov.-Elect Caroline Lee Andrade, and incoming District Learning Facilitator Anna Louisa Bumagat, a past District governor.

These seminars are traditionally held in the hometown of the incoming District Governor.

However, DGE Andrade, who hails from Tacloban City, broke tradition by choosing Dumaguete as the venue.

“I decided to choose Dumaguete as the venue after my first visit [here] in August [last year]. I was impressed by what I saw. I prayed for discernment, and I visited Dumaguete again in February, and met with the City and Provincial officials.

“That was when I was really convinced to hold the event in Dumaguete,” she said.

Lawas lauded the strong support of the City of Dumaguete and the Province of Negros Oriental in the holding of the Rotary events, which went the extra mile to wekcome the Rotarians.

District Gov. Rozzane “Twinkle” Gamboa and spouse Archie Gamboa, the incumbent District learning facilitator, welcomed the selection of Dumaguete as the event venue, as they noted the eagerness of the Dumaguete Rotarians, led by the Rotary Club of Dumaguete East, in organizing the event.

The Governor-Elect, as well as the Presidents and Secretaries-Elect were also inducted for their terms beginning July 2024. (Alex Pal/RCDS)
