Officials, principals, and staff of the Department of Education-Dumaguete Schools Division participated last week in the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill organized by the City Disaster Risk-Reduction & Management Office and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
The participants demonstrated the basic duck-cover- hold technique of survival during an earthquake. The designated “first responders” also rehearsed rescue operations for “injured” members.
City DRRM Officer Allen Froilan Cabaron II said the exercises were meant to determine if the participants were able to follow protocols during an earthquake, including the alarm phase, response, evacuation, assembly, and headcount for their orderly and safe rescue to prevent casualties during an actual occurrence.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, chairperson of the CDRRM Council, directed the periodic conduct of earthquake drills in government agencies and private institutions to better prepare the population, and eliminate casualties or injuries. (PR)
