The Committee on Games and Amusement of the Dumaguete City Council is calling for a public hearing on the proposed establishment of a full blown casino in barangay Batinguel.

The public hearing is scheduled at 2 pm on Monday, Apil 22, at the Sangguniang Panlunsod session hall.

Councilor Agustin Miguel “Tincho” Perdices called for the public hearing after they received a letter from City Legal Officer Manuel Arbon endorsing a request by the Southern Lights Gaming Corporation though its Corporate Secretary Estela Bianca Picardal, for a Resolution of No Objection for the establishment of the casino at Brooke’s Point.

The Public Hearing is expected to have the proponents and critics of the Casino in attendance.

Reactions of the Dumaguete community have posted their views on social media about the proposal to open a casino.

The committee is expected to focus on the effects of the Casino on the lives of the people.

Perdices said the public hearing is needed to determine the pulse of the people an because they cannot just approve or deny the request of the gambling company without giving a reason.

The Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corporation is in charge of granting Casino permits, but they also require a Resolution of No Objection from the City Council before making another step. (AP)
