DumaComida: the City’s best food trip experience

Duma Comida is a go-to weekend food festival in Dumaguete City that seeks to incubate or promote local food entrepreneurs, by being an avenue where they can exhibit and sell their unique food concepts.

In collaboration with the Dumaguete City Tourism Office for this year’s fiesta celebration, it runs every night from Nov. 26 at Quezon Park — instead of the usual weekend operations.

Duma Comida strives to elevate eating moments with friends and family by providing residents and guests of Dumaguete a vast array of cuisine and unique menus originally crafted by local food entrepreneurs, whilst promoting businesses and improving their sales. Essentially, it aims to foster the best food trip experience in the City.

After exposure to several food bazaars in Metro Manila and in Cebu, the organizers thought of having one in Dumaguete; afterall, Dumaguetenos are also fond of food exploration. This concept of Duma Comida then started with our proposal to the City Tourism Office back in 2016, who immediately gave us the opportunity to have our pilot run during the Sandurot festivities. This year, Duma Comida became a weekend event starting on Friday nights at Marina Town along Escano beach in Piapi, with our vendors selling a selection of meals, desserts, and beverages.

The name Duma Comida basically means ‘Dumaguete food’, owing to the Spanish heritage of the City, and using the Spanish word for food (comida).

For this year’s Sandurot and Charter Day food festival at Quezon Park, the homegrown vendors of Duma Comida include: Sugarcane Juice Delights by Janeth Calunod, La Olla by Jaris Limbaga, JP Marino, Wilma’s Mango Shake, Chop’d Lechon, Vin’s Place by Irvin Pulao, Dumaguete Backyard Lechon, Crave by Jeric Chan, Helado by Rachelle Jamora, Buzzfeed Ph, Troy’s, The Foodcrib, Jak’s Pizza by Gerosano Castor Jr., Tipsy Pops by Natalia Diago, Waffle District by Jhun Mark Tanilon, Roti Boss by Zarha Bakrudeen, Jollypig by Dianne Camingawan, and The Bucket by Gloria Mae Salgado.

Duma Comida is the first mover in the market, and is continuously improving itself to cater to residents and guests of Dumaguete. (Ela Clavano)
