The City of Dumaguete opened its first-ever Night Market along Katada Street Friday, in what it hopes could become its next tourist attraction.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo led the opening of the Night Market, located across the Painitan of the public market, where street food and home-cooked dishes of the local vendors are displayed daily from 6 p.m. until midnight.

Remollo said he hopes residents and guests will patronize the Night Market as the City will further develop the area with more lighting, additional amenities and entertainment so that it will attract more customers and become a popular destination for people looking for affordable food and culinary delights.

City Administrator Lilani Ramon said that the night market is the designated place for the street vendors to continue with their trade and maintain their livelihood.

The opening of the Night Market was also attended by Councilor Karissa Tolentino-Maxino, Chief Political Affairs Officer of the Speaker of the House of Representatives Atty. Dio Remollo, Public Market Head Leticia Duran, Barangay and SK officials. (PR)
