A child died while swimming in a pool with her parents.A woman died in a car accident. A father died in a plane crash.An old lady died of a heart attack.A young boy died of COVID 19.
Death is inevitable. It comes in many ways. It happens to anyone.
Not all single men or women will get married. Not all married couples will have a child. Not all children will be able to go to school. Not all who go to school will be able to graduate. Not all who graduate will be able to get a job. Not everyone will get what they want.
But everyone, with no exception, will surely DIE.
ALL WILL DIE.
It is the only SURE thing that will happen to all of us- WE WILL ALL DIE.
Death is ugly. But, it becomes even uglier if it happens before we die. BEFORE WE DIE? Yes! Before we die. How does this happen? Let me share a story.
His name is Josh. Josh used to be a beggar. He begs in the streets, all day. People sometimes give him food. Sometimes they give him money. The money that he gets, most of the time he buys alcohol. Josh hated life. But he loves alcohol. It’s alcohol that makes him forget about life.
Josh never experienced being loved even while he was young. He grew up with an alcoholic father who always beat him up. When he became a teenager, he started drinking. And soon, he became an alcoholic, too. One day, his whole family decided to go to the US. All of them went, except Josh. Yes, they left him.They left him all alone.
Can you imagine the pain? The pain of being abandoned? Left alone? Ignored?
No wonder Josh hated life. All that he experienced was pain. He was misunderstood right from the start. He was left alone all his life.
Alcohol made him feel numb. Alcohol made him escape the pain of life, even for a while.
One day, a fine couple started giving him something. It was not food. Nor was it money. It was unfamiliar to him for he wasn’t able to receive it from anyone. Nobody gave him this “unfamiliar thing” but he liked it anyway. The thing that this couple gave him is called “LOVE”.
This couple made Josh feel special. For the first time in his life, he felt that he mattered. Josh loved the feeling of being loved.
Eventually, Josh and this couple became friends. The couple then invited Josh to their church. And it is in this church that Josh found the reason why this couple gave him this “unconditional love”. You see, this couple experienced unconditional love, too. It came from someone called JESUS.
Josh decided to give his life to Jesus. Then the church hired him as one of their utility workers. That’s the time when Josh started to have a new life. He found his purpose. He now works in the church and lives decently in a boarding house.
Do you know a “Josh” in your life? Or maybe, you are Josh?
Have you ever felt that no one loves you? That you no longer mattered? That your life is useless? That you are just like a “walking dead”?
There are people, breathing, working, eating, but they are dead. Yes, they are dead on the inside. They no longer have the will to live. They just go with the flow pretending that everything’s all right when everything’s all wrong.
They numb themselves with alcohol. They try to fill the emptiness with busyness. Yet, still they are dead. Dead. Dead.
Mark Twain said: “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”
PURPOSE, that’s the main ingredient in being alive. The Japanese call it IKIGAI. It’s that one thing that only you can do. It’s the very reason for your existence.
Unless you find out the reason for your existence, you will never want to live another day.
Once you find out your purpose, your life starts. It’s like Resurrection. You start coming back to life.
Some people die without even knowing their purpose. A lot of people alive today are unaware of what their purpose is.
So how do we find our life’s purpose? Can we find it in ambition? Positions? Possessions?
We don’t.
We find it through someone who purposely created you and me. We find it through God, our Maker. Who else knows our purpose better other than the One who made us?
When He knit us together inside our mother’s womb, He had in mind what He wanted us to do. Our gifts and talents are purposely given to us. Our experiences and circumstances are never accidental. All of these are needed in accomplishing this beautiful purpose He has for you and me.
Once we get to know our purpose our perspectives in life changes. We see things differently. Life is more abundant. More exciting. We start being mindful of our food. We start to exercise. We start taking care of our bodies. We start taking good care of our environment. Every area in our life beams with LIFE!
Let’s go back to our Maker if we want to know our purpose. Start walking that path He specifically carved for you.
