Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria is asking the different security agencies in Dumaguete City, the capital of Negros Oriental, to unite and improve their services in the different establishments they are serving.
During Monday’s Peace and Order Council meeting, the mayor suggested inviting the security agencies and determining which ones are legitimate and those that are illegally operating with improperly trained guards, said Steve Gabriel of the City Information Office in a media release.
Such observation was also shared by other council members to include the city police chief, Supt. James, Goforth, Fiscal Elizer Escorial, Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Ed Du, and Agent Nick Tagle of the National Bureau of Investigation, among others.
Majority of the members of the council agreed with the mayor’s observation that some security guards need additional training on basic safety measures, standard operating procedures and other tasks in line with their responsibilities.
Security guards who are properly trained and are efficient in their jobs can help law enforcement agencies and the city government in addressing the problems of criminality and maintaining peace and order in the city, they said.
The Peace and Order Council comprises representatives from the Philippine National Police, the NBI, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, the City Engineer’s Office, the City Fiscal’s Office, the PNP Crime Laboratory, the NOCCI, the City Information Office and Church representatives, among others.
